Holiday in Cholpon-Ata 2026: Where to Stay and What to See

Cholpon-Ata is the main resort town on the northern shore of Issyk-Kul. Every summer families, couples, and groups from across Central Asia come here. Here's everything you need to plan your 2026 trip.

Why Cholpon-Ata

Issyk-Kul is the world's second-largest mountain lake. The water stays warm even in October — a thermal effect. The surrounding Tian-Shan mountains create a unique climate: sunny but not suffocating. Mountain air.

Cholpon-Ata offers:

  • Long sandy beaches with a gradual slope into the water
  • Developed infrastructure (restaurants, shops, market)
  • Water parks and aquatic activities
  • Petroglyphs — rock carvings over 3,000 years old within city limits
  • Hippodrome (horse racing in season)
  • Close to Issyk-Kul Airport (~32 km)

When to Go

Period Pros Cons
May–June Quiet, affordable, in bloom Water still cool
July–August Warmest season Crowded, high prices
September Warm, peaceful Shorter days
October Very quiet Too cool for swimming

Best time: late June or early September — warm, without peak-season crowds.
